Race Ambassador Sandy Barwick MBE has run around 90,000 kilometers during her decade as a competitive ultra-distance runner. She has competed over all the major distances and times including 24 hours, 48 hours, 6 days, 1,000 and 1,3000 miles. Sandy has set numerous national and world records, some which still stand today including being the first woman to complete the 1,300-mile (2,092km) Sri Chinmoy race in New York, the world's longest certified foot race at the time. A race where she also placed second overall, finishing in 17 days and 22 hours, and breaking eight world road records in the process. In 1992 Sandy ran the length of Aotearoa raising money for diabetes, she is a former NZ Ultra Marathon Association president and Athletics NZ manager of New Zealand's national 24 hour and 100-kilometre world championship teams.
